David Lavoie is a trumpet player, guitarist, composer and educator in Calgary Alberta. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz from Capilano University and has contributed to many projects in the lower mainland. He began studying trumpet in his teens which led him to major in trumpet studies in university. He has also studied guitar privately for 11 years and it remained his secondary instrument throughout his degree. Rock and jazz guitar styles continue to be a focus in his musical career.
David Lavoie quartet plays thoughtfully composed jazz tunes which showcase Lavoie’s writing while studying jazz at Capilano University in North Vancouver. Featuring Brad Turner on keys, Miles Wong on drums, and Stephen Edwards on bass, the quartet swings and grooves like a machine. Taking cues from post bop and contemporary jazz, this quartet is bound in tradition while still remaining fresh and modern.
